Patient texting opt-out and opt-in

Understand what happens when a patient asks to stop or resume text messages.

A patient can reply STOP to opt out of text messages. The office should respect that choice and should not try to bypass it by sending the same automated message another way.

If the patient later wants to resume messages, they can reply START from the same phone number. Availability may take a short time to update.

The office can still use an appropriate non-text method, such as a phone call, when follow-up is needed and permitted by clinic policy.
